By Week’s End, Self-Checkout Lanes
Will Be In Cooperstown Supermarket
COOPERSTOWN – With the new self-checkout lanes being installed at the Cooperstown Price Chopper, the supermarket just gave new meaning to the phrase “grab-and-go.”
“Our customers who are just stopping in for a handful of items are more inclined towards self-checkout,” said Mona Golub, spokesperson for Price Chopper. “By providing these, as well as full-service lines, we can provide better service.”
Five self-checkout lanes are due in Cooperstown by the end of the week, a first for the village.
It’s a trend the company started 25 years ago after noticing many customers swing by for one of two items.
“The majority of our 136 stores across six states” – including Oneonta’s – “have them,” said Golub. “Cooperstown will have the newest ones.”
Price Chopper is putting humans out of work by installing those self check out terminals. I have not seen them in the Oneonta Price Chopper store yet.
I was there yesterday (Sunday) and did not see them.
