Oneonta Girlfriend Also Arrested In Break-Ins

The girlfriend of an Town of Oneonta man arrested earlier this month on a string of burglaries in Oneonta, Laurens, Hartwick and Pittsfield was herself arrested yesterday for knowingly possessing stolen coins worth more than $3,000, the county Sheriff’s Department reported today.

Jennifer F. Wehmeyer, 24, of Route 7, Town of Oneonta, is charged with criminal possession of stolen property after investigators recovered several stolen coins at a Hamburg, Pa., coin and jewelry shop allegedly pawned by her boyfriend, Dale R. Thompson, 26.

Wehmeyer and Thompson allegedly took the coins during the burglary of a Hartwick home in August and pawned them in Pennsylvania a few days later en route to South Carolina, where Thompson is facing additional burglary charges.

After Otsego County investigators interviewed him in South Carolina, he was returned her and charged with taking $3,000 in jewelry after breaking into a Town of Oneonta home Aug. 13, and with the Town of Hartwick break-in Aug. 19.  He was also charged with breaking into two Laurens homes and one in Pittsfield.

The couple had been living in a rented apartment on Russell Hill Road, Laurens, at the time of the break-ins.

He is facing felony charges for burglary, grand larceny and criminal mischief.  He was in county jail at the time of her arrest, where she was also confined on $2,500 bail.
