14 Hospitalized As COVID

Continues To Ravage County

COOPERSTOWN – One person has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and 13 others remain hospitalized as COVID-19 numbers continue to rise across Otsego County, Public Health Director Heidi Bond reported this afternoon.

“A good portion of these numbers are related to traveling out-of-state for the holidays,” she said. “And we’re just going to keep seeing these number rise, because people aren’t heeding to public health warnings not to socialize.”

22 people tested positive today, she said, and of those, five were linked to an outbreak at the Cooperstown Veteran’s Club, which has sickened 12 people. “A patron was socializing without a mask,” she said. “That’s how it spreads.”

Of those, she said, at least one person has been hospitalized. There are a total of 127 active cases in the county

  1. Always always blaming people for not complying enough or not doing it right…maybe cases are rising because it’s a virus and viruses are microscopic and can’t be controlled? Stop guilting, shaming, and blaming people for being unable to stop a microscopic virus. apparently every single case is someone’s fault and means someone messed up. It’s truly ridiculous and so detached from the reality of microbiology and virology.

  2. To the people who wrote this article.
Do you even understand the meaning of Ravage? Fear monger much?
I believe what has been Ravaged by this
Reaction to a Virus is the income and hope
of the common man by shutting down small business.

  3. There is incredibly strong data demonstrating that mask wearing and social distancing are indeed very effective at stopping the transmission of this virus. I don’t want to shame or blame anyone. I just want my neighbors to protect me and each other by taking these simple precautions as I am committed to doing what I can to protect them.

  4. There is certainly a factor of ignoring personal responsibility to wear a mask and maintain social distancing in the current pandemic. It may not be the whole story, but masks have been shown to reduce transmission (for two and fro). And you don’t have to be ravaged by fear to do this, just practical and considerate of others.

  5. Thank you for this very important information. Everyone must take responsibility for their own actions. If wearing a mask and only being outside of your home for necessary errands and work is what is demanded than we, as a small community must do our part. Why is the Cooperstown Veterans Center open? Is the only reason because of the bar atmosphere downstairs? Are the bar stools 6 feet apart? Does the bartender stand 6 feet away and slide the drink or bottle down to the customer? Shame on the person or persons who risks their health and others by not wearing a mask or even getting drunk and being a bit too friendly. Sue Straub (wife of a Vietnam Veteran)
