3 Arrested In Police Raid;

ONEONTA – Nearly $25,000 worth of crack cocaine was seized from a home on Meckley Avenue during an early-morning raid that resulted in the arrests of Sophie S. Szczepanski, 30, Charles W. Haynes Jr, 43 and Orane Crawford, 23.

At 8:30 a.m. today, the Oneonta Police Department patrol division, detective division and the Special Response Team, with assistance from the Delaware County Sheriff’s investigators and K-9 Ozzie, served a search warrant at 10 Meckley Ave.  The basis of the search warrant was from an investigation into illegal narcotic trafficking.  

Police discovered approximately 7.2 ounces of crack cocaine with a street value in the area of $25,000.  In addition, eight prescription hydrocodone pills, two grams of marijuana, and $700 cash were discovered.

All three persons were arrested for the class A-II felony of Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance in the 2nd  degree; the class B felony of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree, and the class A misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree.

In addition, Haynes and Szczepanski have been charged with the class A misdemeanor of Endangering the Welfare of a child.  Crawford has also been charged with the class B misdemeanor of False personation.

All suspects were held pending arraignment in the City of Oneonta Court.

The maximum punishment for a person convicted of a class A-II felony is life imprisonment.

The maximum punishment for a person convicted in a class B Felony is 9 years’ incarceration.

The maximum penalty for a class A misdemeanor is one-year incarceration

  1. I am so glad to see drug dealers removed from our community. So sad to know that a mother of young children can put drugs into the community. Although any mother who can put her children in that kind of danger, would never care about our children.
