Merchants Beware: That

$100 Bill May Be Bogus

ONEONTA – State police have received “numerous complaints” of counterfeit $100 bills being used in Otsego and Delaware county stores with the intent of scamming merchants, according to State Trooper Nathan Riegal, public information officer.

The scam works when a person uses a counterfeit $100 bill to purchase a small number of item, then receives change back in legal tender.  If a merchant suspects someone of using a counterfeit bill, they are urged to call local police.
