1st In CCS History: Boys Swim

Team Competes In State Meet

It's a CCS first. Members of the school's boys swim team will be departing for Ithaca College tomorrow to compete in the Boys High School State Championships in Swimming & Diving for the first time in school history. Posing with coach Cheryl Rock are, from left, Michael Kern and Mebust brothers Ted and Sean. Ian Robinson will be the fourth member in the relay event. Sean Mebust will also be swimming in 500M and 1,000M events. Coach Rock pointed out that, while CCS is a C Section school, that doesn't matter here: Swimmers from all schools, big and small, will be competing in the same events. Thursday, the boys will practice, with the contests scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The CCS girls team had sent Bridget Quinn and diver Becky Fisher to states in the past, but these are the first local boys to compete. Sean Mebust said he believes the Clark Sports Center's growing Sharks program has taken the program to ever higher levels. The boys practice 2 1/2 hours three times a week, and 1 1/2 hours twice a week. (Jim Kevlin/allotsego.com)
