Finds Medallion
Golden Football In Badger Park
COOPERSTOWN – Young Tim Feury – he’ll be 4 on Monday – found the 2016 Cooperstown Winter Carnival Medallion (a golden football) along the outside of the Badger Park Rink about 3 o’clock this afternoon.Tim will received the $500 prize at the Winter Carnival Touchdown Closer at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Vets’ Club.Tim’s dad, Ted, said the first clue, published Jan. 22, merely identified the medallion as a gold object. “It wasn’t enough to do anything,” he said.On Jan. 29, the combination of the golden object and “in a field” sent the son and father to Lakefront Park and Badger Park. But no luck. The clue that appeared in yesterday’s Freeman’s Journal and Hometown Oneonta included the phrase, “When the snow goes away, I can be found.”So the duo headed out today to Three Mile Point, thinking ice receding from the lakeshore would reveal the prize. Two ice fishermen told them, “Two women have been here already.” So they thought the prize was already found. Then then figured, snow goes away, ice goes away, so they made a final sweep through Badger Park. They found the trophy, not even hidden, but set again the outside of the boards, and Tim claimed the prize. The Feurys have been medal-hunting enthusiasts in past years, so they honed their skills. “Last year,” said dad Ted, “the whole family spent a ton of time through through the parks in blizzards.”
