Proposed City Charter Changes
Head Toward City Council Vote
ONEONTA – Mayor Gary Herzig has called a special meeting of Common Council’s Legislative Committee for 4 p.m. Thursday, March 10, to begin reviewing changes to the City Charter proposed by the ad hoc committee he established for that purpose, according to a report in this week’s Hometown Oneonta.
The next step would be for Common Council to schedule a public hearing. The charter changes would then go to a vote, probably in April, Herzig told www.allotsego.com’s sister publication.
Three experts on charter revisions, however, have said the Herzig committee’s recommendation are significant enough to require a referendum before they can take effect, the newspaper reported. The existing charter was approved by 71 percent of city voters in November 2010.
This is the latest revision received by www.allotsego.com; however, Mayor Herzig said he has not seen it and is unsure if it it final. When an updated version is received, it will be posted.
