ONEONTA – Noël E. Ranieri, 61, who taught at ONC BOCES for 27 years, died Friday, April 22, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 4, 1955, in Carbondale, Pa., to Siro and Joan (Brophy) Vergari.
She married Scott T. Johnson on Aug. 20, 2012, in West Oneonta.
Noël graduated Oneonta High School in 1973, and from Sullivan County Community College with an associate degree in Early Childhood Education.
Shortly after, she moved to Bozeman, Mont., with her then husband Daniel Ranieri, raising her two children, Daniel M. Ranieri and Rachel R. (Ranieri) Ramsey. After thriving in the peaceful serenity of the Rocky Mountains for nine years, she moved back to Oneonta to live near her family.
In her years at BOCES, Noël influenced the lives of many young children and her co-workers. Her caring and gentle nature touched all people she encountered, changing their lives for the better. She enjoyed the splendor of nature and all it offered, especially hours spent in her garden. The smile on her face was infectious while she spent time with her family, cooked, hiked, canoed, motorcycled and while on vacations with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Scott T. Johnson; son Daniel Ranieri and his wife, Simia, of Bozeman; daughter Rachel R. (Ranieri) Ramsey, and her husband Matthew, of Bozeman; daughter Kayla M. Johnson and Joseph A. Anzalone, of Franklin Square, Long Island; and her three grandchildren, Rio and Mira Ranieri and Carmella Noël Anzalone.
Also, her father, Siro J. Vergari of Oneonta; in-laws Ted and Colaine Johnson of Milford; her sisters Joan Stanley and husband Jack of Murfreesboro Tenn., Ruth Avanzato and husband Vincenzo of Oneonta, Inez Vagliardo and husband Michael of Oneonta, and Dawn Gillette and husband Griffin of Otego; her brothers David Vergari and wife Dawn of Oneonta, and Mark Vergari of Oneonta, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Joan M. Vergari of Oneonta, and her sister Theresa Vergari of Oneonta.
Calling hours are 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at St. Mary’s Church, Oneonta, with Rev. David Mickiewicz, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.

A beautiful person who made me feel so welcome to Oneonta when I first arrived here from Ireland. I am so sad on hearing of her passing. I loved her spirit and will never forget her. I am truly devastated hearing she is no longer with us. As long as I live the goodness she shared with me will never die. I will always love you Noel and never forget you.
