Freshman Michele Frazier
Seeks 2nd City Council Term
ONEONTA – Michele Frazier, first-term First Ward Common Council member, made it official this afternoon: She is running for a second term this November.
Of the three incumbents said to be running again, that leaves only John Rafter, Ward 7, still to make it official. David Rissberger, Ward 3, announced Saturday he’s in.
Five Council members are retiring, and six candidates have already emerged to run for those positions: Seth Clark and Mark Davies (Ward 2), Jerid Goss (Ward 4), Len Carson (Ward 5), Scott Harrington (Ward 6) and Joshua Bailey (Ward 8).

“Michele Frazier has been serving as councilmember for the first ward since 2017. While in office, Frazier has advocated for increased funding for programs for children in the park’s summer programs, aided her constituents through the summer-long construction project in the Fair St area of the ward and holds regular ward meetings to keep members of the ward actively engaged in what is happening in the city. Ms. Frazier grew up in Oneonta in a local business family. She received her undergraduate from the University of Chicago, a Masters in Theological Studies from Harvard University and a Masters in Science from American University.
“Councilmember Frazier serves on the Operations, Planning, Evaluation Committee, Community Development Committee and acts as liaison to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
“This summer, Frazier expects to be on the front lines serving her constituents during the Main St construction project that is slated to resurface Main St from the Post Office to the city line.
“Frazier notes that she really enjoys being a part of making Oneonta a strong community. It was that something unique about Oneonta that brought Ms. Frazier back home to raise her family and give back to the community. Ms. Frazier is a full-time professor at SUNY Delhi and a realtor. She lives in Ward 1 with her three children and spouse.”
