Cooperstown ZBA Sets Hearing

For  Downtown Luxury Hotel

COOPERSTOWN – The village Zoning Board of Appeals a few minutes ago set a public hearing on a proposed luxury hotel downtown for its next meeting, at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 5.

The discussion this evening centered mostly on height:  The ZBA must decide whether to issue a variance, since the village code limits downtown buildings to 3.5 stories or 42 feet tall.   Plans call for a four-story hotel with a height of 48 feet.

ZBA chair Susan Snell questioned whether her board should also consider parking, since height allows more rooms, and therefore would require more parking spaces.  Village Attorney Martin Tillapaugh, who was present, said he would research the matter.
