Michael J. O’Hara, 74;

Michael O’Hara

ONEONTA – Michael J. O’Hara, 74, who operated his own construction firm until retiring, passed away peacefully May 15, 2019, at Fox Hospital, with his longtime, loving girlfriend, Mary Ann Helmer by his side.

Michael was born Sept. 24, 1944, at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, the son of Ambrose and Rita (Petkash) O’Hara.

Michael grew up in Otego, attending Otego Central School and Auburn Community College. After school he took on a number of roles in the building industry. He then began his own successful construction business that he operated until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother David O’Hara.

He is survived by siblings Dennis, Karen, Kevin (Beth) O’Hara, Sharon O’Hara Nelson (Norm) and sister in law Ginny O’Hara; son Michael O’Hara, daughter Valerie French, her husband David as well as grandson David; Soulmate Mary Ann Helmer her sons Michael and Bobby; grandchildren Joe, John, Kaylyn, Lexi, Kira and Nelly; and his great grandson Carson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.  Tuesday May 21, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta. Interment will take place following in Mt. Cavalry Cemetery, Emmons.

The family would like to thank everyone at Hematology/Oncology at Foxcare, especially Dr. Bryan Lee, Patty Jacobs FNP-C and Lori Baldanza FNC-P, as well as the staff at Fox Hospital for his care.

Memorial donations may be made to Super Heroes in Ripped Jeans Animal Shelter, Oneonta.
