On Downtown Hotel Special Permit

COOPERSTOWN – The Village Board’s public hearing on whether to issue a special permit for a proposed downtown hotel will occur at 4 p.m. today in Village Hall, 22 Main St.

So far, the plan has been rejected by the Zoning Board of Appeals for exceeding a three-story height limit and by the Planning Board for failing to include a legal parking plan.  The H-PARB (Historic & Architectural Review Board) declined to act on the application, saying it was incomplete.

A hotel is allowed in the village’s Business District, but only with a special permit issued by the Village Board.  Mayor Jeff Katz said the trustees might consider issuing such a permit, but only if it contained provisions requiring the plan to receive approval from the other boards.
