Headlines Annual Institute
Hosted At Hartwick College
ONEONTA – Orthodox Church in America Archbishop Michael Dahulich will discuss a bishop’s role in teaching the faith at the annual Hartwick Seminary Summer Institute of Theology at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday at Hartwick College.
Bishop Dahulich will teach on “Wisdom from the Psalms,” part of the annual Institute of Theology underway this week.
Oneonta clergy offering classes this year include Father David Mickiewicz, St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church; Father Vasil Dubee, St Innocents Orthodox Church; The Rev. Cynthia Walton-Leavitt, Red Door Presbyterian; Cindy Korb, retired teacher and missionary, and Carmel Sperti, Director of Faith Formation, St Mary’s.
Also offering presentations are The Rev. Joseph Perdue, First Baptist, Cooperstown, and the Rev Sharon Rankins-Burd, Fly Creek Methodist. Back again is Deacon Randy Velez, St Thomas the Apostle RC Church, Cherry Valley.
Dr Gary Herion, Professor of Biblical Studies, Hartwick College (retired), a specialist in the Old Testament, is the Theologian in Residence for this years 29th Summer Institute. He will teach his well-received Old Testament Survey course at 8:30 a.m. each day, beginning today. Each day at 1:15pm he’ll offer “Five Great Bible Stories You’ve Probably Never Heard Of.” Tuesday evening, 7/30, he’ll offer a one time Seminar, “The Gospel According to Ruth,” a story of human compassion and divine grace.
The Rev. Dr. Carl Roemer will teach an introduction to New Testament Greek. The Rev Lori Kochanki, assistant to the Bishop of the Lutheran Upstate NY Synod, will teach on “Storytelling in Preaching.”
