IN MEMORIAM: Ann B. Clinton, 78;
Lived Many Years In Cooperstown Area
COOPERSTOWN – Ann B. Clinton, a long-time resident of the Cooperstown area, passed away early Friday morning, Dec. 27, 2019, at Wilson Health Care Center at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Md. She was 78.
Born Judith Ann Barrett on Oct. 5, 1941, in Baltimore, Md., she was a daughter of William Milton Barrett and Mildred Lee Rippard Barrett. Raised in Maryland, she graduated from Franklin High School in Reisterstown.
During her first marriage, she assisted her husband with his real estate appraisal business, George H. Cade Appraisals. During this time, they raised a family and lived in various places until settling down on a farm just outside of Cooperstown.
On Dec. 14, 1979, Ann married Douglas C. Clinton. She served as the secretary for his business, Douglas Clinton Restoration Contractor, which was responsible for the restoration and preservation of many historic buildings throughout nine states and the District of Columbia, including several former U.S. presidents’ homes, Blair House and Hyde Hall.
During her years spent in the Cooperstown area, she also worked at the Fly Creek Cider Mill where she earned quite the reputation for making delicious fudge.
After living in the Town of Springfield, Ann moved to Belleview, Fla. In recent years she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Chip Brennan, in Bethesda, Md.
Ann is survived by one son, Stanley H. Cade and wife, Katrina, of Roseboom; one daughter, Sherry Brennan and husband, Edward T. “Chip” Brennan, Jr. of Bethesda, Md.; five grandchildren, Kassandra Laymon and husband, Craig, Joshua Cade and wife, Amanda, Tyler Cade and wife, Erica, Sierra Dressing and husband, Benjamin, and Bret Brennan and wife, Kelly; nine great grandchildren, Caden and Eliana Laymon, Kristopher, Hunter, Addilynn and Deacon Cade, Catie Ries, James Brennan and Leona Dressing; a sister-in-law, Pat Barrett of Raynham, Mass.; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Taco. She is further survived by two stepsons, Keith Clinton and Wayne Clinton; a stepdaughter, Peg Wilson and husband, Doug; and stepgrandchildren Sean Clinton, Taryn Wilson and Laura, Cyndy and Patrick Shephard and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Doug Clinton, who passed on Feb. 22, 2009; a son, Michael H. Cade; a brother, William Milton Barrett III; a sister, Mildred Lee Barrett Bradley; a step son, Dale R. Clinton; and her beloved dog, Jackie.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut St., Cooperstown, with the Rev. Terry Brant, pastor of the First Christian Church of South Valley, officiating. Ann will be laid to rest later this spring in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.
