IN MEMORIAM: Stanley A. Syvertsen, 78;
Teacher, Businessman, Active in Habitat

ONEONTA - Stanley A. Syvertsen, 78, who taught at Bugbee School, owned Shearer's Trucking, and was active in Habitat for Humanity, passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2019, at a long-term care facility in Morristown, NJ.
He was born on April 16, 1941, in Brooklyn, son of Jakob and Solveig Syvertsen of Bay Ridge. He graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in 1959 and was active in his church basketball and youth leagues.
He attended SUNY Oswego and graduated with a BS in Industrial Arts in 1963. He was an active member of the Beta Tau Epsilon fraternity. He later attended SUNY Oneonta where he completed a masters degree. It was at SUNY Oneonta where he met his wife, whom he married in 1970.
