Bronx Teen Killed

In Walton ATV Crash

WALTON – A 15-year-old from The Bronx died Friday afternoon when he lost control of an ATV near here and and crashed into a tree, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department reports.

Responding to a 911 call, deputies and Walton firefighters and EMTs found the teen had lost control of the all-terrain vehicle on Iroquois Trail Road; it ran off the road and he was thrown from the ATV, Sheriff Craig DuMond said today.

The boy was not wearing a helmet, the sheriff said.

A witness transported the victim to a residence on Cayuga Trail Road residence and called 911.  The victim was airlifted from that location, by LifeNet Medivac helicopter, to UHS Delaware Valley Hospital where died of the injuries he sustained in the accident.

In the press release issued following the accident, DuMond stated, “It is not only unlawful to operate all-terrain vehicles, including side-by-side utility vehicles, on public highways, but it is very dangerous, as these vehicles are not designed for operation on those road surfaces.”

50 Vehicles Participate In ‘Ride For Black Lives’ WALTON – A 50-vehicle “Justice Ride for Black Lives” traversed Delaware County Friday evening, in solidarity with nationwide protests since George Floyd’s death, travelling through Margaretville, Andes, Delhi, Hamden and Walton.
