BASSETT ALERTS STAFF TO HACKING

OF EXCELLUS-BLUE CROSS RECORDS

excellusCOOPERSTOWN – Bassett Healthcare advised its employees this morning that the medical records of their health-insurance carrier, Rochester-based Excellus-Blue Cross’ computer system, had been hacked.

“We’re letting our employees know because we want to take care of our employees,” said Bill Stamp, vice president/marketing & communications.

Bassett provides coverage through Excellus-Blue Cross, which is setting up a hotline and website to answer individual concerns, Stamp said.

Reports began surfacing Thursday afternoon that Excellus computers were targeted last month in a cyberattack that may have provided unauthorized access to more than 10 million personal records.
