Miller’s triple boosts
Coop over WCV

STAFF REPORT • Special to www.AllOTSEGO.com

Cooperstown senior center fielder Abby Miller’s bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the sixth inning broke open a tie game and kept Cooperstown undefeated in softball with an 8-4 win over visiting West Canada Valley on Wednesday, May 19.

Cooperstown pitchers Dani Seamon and Marley Lippitt combined for 15 strikeouts.

Seamon started the game and retired nine of the first 11 batters she faced, before WCV’s batters began to catch up to her in the middle innings.

Lippitt relieved Seamon in the top of the sixth inning. She struck out all three batters she faced in the sixth inning and then struck out three more in the top of the seventh inning, although she did issue a walk and give up a single. She got the final two batters to swing and miss with runners in scoring position.

Cooperstown scored three runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Katie Crippen and a two RBI single by Ellie Hotaling. The Hawkeyes made it 4-0 two innings later when Crippen singled and scored from first on an error.

WCV came back in the middle innings, scoring two in the fourth and twice in the fifth innings off of Seamon, who gave up four runs on four hits and an error.

In the bottom of the sixth, Seamon and Hotaling led off with singles, Anna Lambert drew a walk to load the bases. After Lippett struck out, Miller tripled to the right field fence to score all three runners. Miller then scored on Emmy Lippitt’s single.

Marley Lippitt got the win for Cooperstown, while Hanna Burdick took the loss for WCV.

Crippen, Hotaling and Seamon all went 2-for-3 for Cooperstown (6-0, 2-0), which plays at Herkimer at 4:30 p.m., Friday, May 21.
