Elmira tops Oneonta on tenth-inning run

STAFF REPORT • Special to www.AllOTSEGO.com

Jack Carozzoni got the game-winning hit in extra innings to help host Elmira beat Oneonta in baseball, 3-2, Wednesday, May 19.

An Oneonta error made the two-out run unearned. Elmira, a Class AA school, had tied the game twice in earlier innings, with solo runs in the bottom of the fourth and sixth tying the game at 1-1 and 2-2.

Sophomore Aidan Gelbsman and Junior Seamus Catella had strong outings on the mound for the Yellowjackets. Oneonta could only pick up five hits in the game and failed to deliver a timely hit during the extra innings.

Ryan Ess got the win for Elmira. Catella took the loss for Oneonta, which hosts Chenango Forks at 5 p.m., Friday, May 21, at Joe Hughes Field in Oneonta.
