Cooperstown fireworks will return

STAFF REPORT • Special to www.AllOTSEGO.com

The Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Department announced Thursday, June 24, that it will hold its annual fireworks show after all, with the display scheduled for Monday, July 5.

The Cooperstown VFD announced the switch Thursday on the Facebook page Celebrate Cooperstown. It mentioned that the fireworks are free to the public but paid for by donations to the fire department.

“We depend on community donations for this family-friendly event,” the post said. “To contribute, please send to Cooperstown FD, P.O. Box 1, Cooperstown 13326.”

Local Fourth of July fireworks celebrations are also scheduled for Richfield over Canadarago Lake on Saturday, July 3, and in Oneonta’s Neahwa Park on Sunday, July 4.

In addition, Springfield’s annual Fourth of July parade has been turned into a “drive-by parade,” where participants decorate their houses or lawns, with this year’s theme being, “Essential America.”
