STAFF REPORT • Special to www.AllOTSEGO.com

UPDATED: President Joe Biden joined the ever-growing chorus of politicians who have said Cuomo should resign.

“I think he should resign. I understand that the state legislature may decide to impeach. I don’t know that for a fact,” Biden said in response to a question from CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.

The New York delegation to the U.S. Congress, including Rep. Antonio Delgado, D-19, also reiterated its call for Cuomo to resign or for the Assembly to begin impeachment hearings.

Here is the original post:

Gov. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women and actively tried to cover it up and retaliate against his accusers, according to a report from New York’s attorney general announced Tuesday, Aug. 3. Local and state politicians reacted swiftly, renewing their calls for Cuomo to resign.

The investigators concluded that the Governor engaged in “unwanted groping, kissing, and hugging, and making inappropriate comments.”

These new revelations caused a furious reaction among politicians, including those who represent Otsego County.

State Sen. Peter Oberacker, R-Schenevus, said the governor “must resign immediately and face criminal charges.”

“The governor said wait for the independent investigation from the attorney general, we now have that report and it is sickening to read,” Oberacker said in a media release. “The heinous acts committed by the governor are unconscionable. He clearly violated the public trust, and moreover he treated a number of women in a disgusting, unlawful manner. I commend those who courageously stood up to this predator and praise them for their bravery.”

Assemblyman John Salka, R-Brookfield, called the findings “horrifying.”

“Gov. Cuomo must resign immediately,” Salka said. “His actions are inexcusable; he sexually harassed multiple women, violated many state and federal laws and created a toxic work environment. I am pleased to see this was an unbiased, transparent and professional investigation. We must stand with these victims and hold the governor accountable. I am reiterating my call for the governor to resign today.”

Assemblyman Brian Miller, R-New Hartford, echoed his colleagues.

“I am calling for Gov. Cuomo’s immediate resignation given the now proven allegation in the attorney general’s report,” Miller said in a media release. “If he refuses to resign, the Assembly must take immediate action to impeach. The brave women who have come forward deserve nothing less.”

New York’s two national Senators, Kristen Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer, are both Democrats like Cuomo, but in a joint statement Tuesday, they called the actions of the Governor “profoundly disturbing, inappropriate and completely unacceptable.”

“No elected official is above the law. The people of New York deserve better leadership in the governor’s office,” the statement read. “We continue to believe that the Governor should resign.”

The New York State United Teachers President Andy Pallotta also responded Tuesday, calling the results of the attorney general’s investigation “repugnant and indefensible” to his behavior in the workplace as an elected official. “Equally troubling was the governor’s response to the report. Sadly, both show he is unfit to serve in office.”

  1. While I agree that Governor Cuomo should resign, because of the well-documented accounts of his abusive behavior, I find Assemblyman Salka’s remarks appalling. Salka has continued to spread the lie that the 2020 election was “stolen” from Donald Trump. Supporting Donald Trump, who has proven by his own words to be a sexual harasser, and then calling for Cuomo’s resignation for the same behavior is breathtakingly hypocritical.
