IN MEMORIAM: Ralph J. Sobers, 64; Fisherman
ONEONTA – Ralph J. Sobers, 64, an avid fisherman and the Susquehanna Bass Club’s Angler of the Year in 1997, retired from the physical world Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, to hunt and fish with the angels.
Ralph was born in Oneonta on Aug. 15, 1951, a son of the late James B. and Edna (Ross) Sobers.
During his life, Ralph was employed with the City of Oneonta and, for more than 17 years, with the Daily Star.
Ralph’s life could be summed up by the following William Tapply quote, “I’ve gone fishing thousands of times in my life, and I have never once felt unlucky or poorly paid for those hours in the water.” He was a Susquehanna Bass Club member for 21 years.
He is survived by his brothers, Charles E. Sobers, Fred R. Sobers, and Francis Perry. Also several cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be at 1pm on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery. Family and friends, beginning at noon, may gather at the Bookhout Funeral Home to join the procession to the cemetery.
