IN MEMORIAM: Irene W. Judkins, 96;
Clerked In City Stores, Including Gallin’s
ONEONTA – Irene W. Judkins, 96, a former saleslady at Gallin’s Jewelry Store (now the Oneonta History Center) and an antique-car buff, peacefully passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at the Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center .
She was born on Feb. 20, 1919, in Cherry Valley, a daughter of the late George and Ina (Morton) Whiteman. On June 29, 1938, Irene married Ralph L. Judkins and celebrated 41 years together until Ralph’s passing in April 1980.
Irene attended Roseboom schools and Cobleskill High School. After school, she worked at General Electric in Schenectady for several years. Later, she worked as a cashier in several stores in Oneonta before joining Gallin’s.
Later in life, Irene developed a fondness for antique cars. In her spare time, she traveled all over to attend antique car shows and was a member of the Rolling Antiquers Car Club.
Irene is survived by her granddaughter, Deidre (Jeff) Lent, and by her daughter-in-law, Judith Judkins.
She is also survived by Donna Simons and her family; many nieces and nephews; and by all of her friends at 32 Country Club RD.
Irene was predeceased by her son, Frederick Judkins; her brothers, Frederick, Stewart, and Irvin Whiteman; and her sisters, Hilda, Helen, Mary, Ruth, and Loretta Whiteman.
In keeping with Irene’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Otego.

Her family would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Chestnut Park Rehab and Nursing Center for their compassion and wonderful care of Irene during her stay there.
