Alleged Renert Accomplice Arrested
In Pre-Christmas Shooting In Coop
COOPERSTOWN – A Florida man police suspect assisted Barry Renert in an alleged armed-robbery attempt at Seventh Inning Stretch two days before Christmas was arrested yesterday at a prison in Orlando, Fla., by Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies after a five-month investigation.
It is alleged that Stephen John Janiszeski, 30, of 3200 Old Winter Garden Road, Ocoee, Fla., drove up from Sanford, Fla., with Renert and waited in the car while his companion went into the store. There, he confronted owner Vincent Carfagno, who pulled a pistol and shot at Renert, who fled, deputies said at the time.
Renert was captured the evening of Dec. 23 in a Richmond, Va., bus station. In subsequent months, deputies developed information that led to Wednesday’s arrest.
