IN MEMORIAM:  Noella Townsend, 93;

Retired To Oneonta To Be Near Family

ONEONTA – Noella Townsend, 93, who retired to Oneonta from Hudson Falls in 1986, passed away Jan. 16, 2016, at Fox Nursing Home.  Her son and his family survive her locally.

She was born on Dec. 17, 1922, in Casselman, Ontario, Canada. She and her family moved to Hudson Falls, when she was about 4, where she learned to speak English and graduated from Hudson Falls High School.

In 1942, she married Neil Townsend who predeceased her in 2010, enjoying 68 years together. They originally lived in Hudson Falls and upon retiring in 1986, they moved to Oneonta to be closer to their son, his wife, and three grandchildren. From 1986 through 2010, they spent their summers in Oneonta and winters in Port Richey, Fla., where she had many wonderful years.

She worked for many years as an office manager before retiring. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, and knitting.
Noella is also predeceased by her daughter, Arleen McDevitt. Out of Noella’s four siblings, she is predeceased by two sisters and one brother.

She is survived by her youngest brother, Leo (Ruth) St. Louis of Hudson Falls.  She is also survived by her other daughter, Dr. Aileen Townsend and Peter Paravati of Old Forge, her son, Warren and June Townsend of Oneonta, and five grandchildren, Brian, Denise, and Casey Townsend, Matthew and Beth McDevitt, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

According to her wishes, Noella will be cremated and there will be no calling hours. A commemoration service will be held at the convenience of the family, under the care and guidance of the Bookhout Funeral Home.  Family and friends will be notified as to the time and date.

The family gratefully declines flowers and requests those who wish to remember Noella with a memorial gift to consider a contribution to Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or to a charity of their choosing.
