County Republicans Back
John Faso For Congress
KINDERHOOK – Otsego County Democrats and Republicans have both made their loyalties known in the upcoming race to replace U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, in the 19th Congressional District.
The Democratic County Committee backed Zephyr Teachout last evening, and the Republicans over the weekend got behind John Faso, the Republican gubernatorial candidate against Eliot Spitzer in 2006. A lawyer, Faso is also from Kinderhook.
According to a press release from Faso’s campaign, 66 percent of the weighted vote of the county Republican Committee endorsed Faso, and 33 percent Bob Bishop, a farmer from Hamden, Delaware County, who also is general manager of Larsen Farms Terminal. Andrew Heaney, an oil distributor from Dutchess County, received no votes.
Faso has also won GOP endorsements in Montgomery, Delaware, Columbia, Greene, Broome, Sullivan and Schoharie counties as well as Conservative Party members in Columbia, Greene, Otsego and Schoharie counties.
“John Faso is a leader with the experience, vision and integrity to make real, substantive change in Washington,” County Clerk Kathy Sinnott Gardner was quoted as saying.
Len Carson, county rep from Oneonta, said Faso “has the energy, integrity and experience to get things done in Washington.”
“Otsego County made the right decision in selecting John Faso as our Republican nominee for the 19th Congressional District,” said Leonard Carson Jr., Otsego County Board Representative, District 13 (City of Oneonta 5th and 6th Wards).
Faso was also former GOP leader in the Assembly, and served for three years as a member of the Control Board that worked to fix the financial and managerial issues of the City of Buffalo and its school system.
Mr. Faso and his wife, Mary Frances, a nurse, have two children.
