Will Pay First Visit To County

ONEONTA –  State Sen. Jim Seward, R-Milford, announced today that MaryEllen Elia, the new state education commissioner, will visit Laurens Central School on Thursday.

Senator Seward and Commissioner Elia will join Laurens Central School Superintendent Romona Wenck for a tour, and will have a chance to talk with students, teachers, and administrators during her visit.

“The best way to understand the impact of state education policies is to experience them in practice,” said Senator Seward.  “This will be a valuable opportunity to impress upon Commissioner Elia the issues that are of local importance, especially in the context of a rural school setting.”

Seward, a member of the Senate Education Committee, issued the invitation to Elia after her first hearing before that group a few weeks ago.
