To Smoke Dope In Jail
4th Passed Pills, Correction Officers Say
COOPERSTOWN – Four inmates of the Otsego County Correctional Facility were arrested and charged with possessing drugs and other forbidden items in their cells after guards reported smelling marijuana in the hallways.
Corrections officers alleged they noticed the aromatic odor coming from the cell of Jacob Perez, 33, Oneonta. He was found to be in possession of marijuana and arrested, charged with Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd, a Class A Misdemeanor.
Subsequent searches of other housing units allegedly turned up contraband in the cells of James Sitts, 35, Laurens, and William Peeters, 29, Hartwick,. Sitts was arrested for possessing prescription medication, latex gloves, and copper wire and charged with Promoting Prison Contraband 1st, a Class D Felony. Peeters was arrested for possessing prescription medication and a piece of a latex glove and charged with Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd, a Class A Misdemeanor.
Corrections officers also reported that Brendan Murphy, 37, Oneonta, was arrested after being caught by staff attempting to pass prescription medication to another inmate in his housing unit. He was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd, a Class A Misdemeanor.
Perez and Sitts were arraigned in the Town of Hartwick Court, released on their own recognizance, and are to appear at a later date. Murphy and Peeters were issued appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Middlefield Court on a later date.
Did they go back to jail or are they out. ?
Must be that the staff there needs to step up. They should never have been able to get anything like that in there to begin with. Btw…isn’t there a nurse that is supposed to administer these medications? Might check that to.
