St. Mary’s Expands

Lenten Food Drive

Parishioners at St. Mary’s “Our Lady of the Lake” Catholic Church in Cooperstown had added a twist to their annual Lenten food collection for the needy. Using 40 jars (one for each day of Lent) of apple sauce (a food that all ages partake of), the parish has created a cross on the template of the central aisle and the transept. Also this year, the Lenten collection has expanded to include personal-care items for the “food insecure,” and diapers and other supplies and toys for infants. Here, Father John P. Also this year, the Lenten collection has expanded to include personal-care items for the “food insecure,” and diapers, toys and other supplies for infants. “Hunger is more than being hungry,” explained Father John P. Rosson, pastor.  “Hunger is food insecurity, whereby people may cut corners on baby diapers or personal items to secure food.”  Here, Father Rosson discusses transporting the supplies to the Cooperstown Food Bank with parishioner Kathy Raddatz, center, and Maureen Brennan, parish office secretary.
