UNADILLA – Oneonta native Florence “Flo” Folensbee, 79, local American Cancer Society executive director for many years, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at home in Unadilla, surrounded by her family.

Flo was born June 28, 1937, in Oneonta, the daughter of the late Earl and Nellie M. (Hilsinger) Carr. She married Robert Folensbee in January 1984. In addition to her work for the Cancer Society, she retired in 1999 from JC Penney Stores, where she was a sales associate.

Flossy, as she was known by her friends and associates, loved gardening, car shows, swimming, running, bowling, flea markets, animals and women’s college basketball.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Robert Folensbee of Unadilla; her daughter, Gina Farone of Otego; her granddaughter, Molly Toye of Oneonta; her daughter-in-law, Lynda Bassette of Franklin; her brother, Robert Carr and his wife, Peggy of Georgia and her sister, Doris Birkett of Florida.

Flo was predeceased by her parents, her son, Michael Farone; her sisters, Betty Dibble and Frances D’Archangles; her brothers, Dick Carr and Earl “Stubby” Carr.

A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28. 2016 at St. Mary’s Church, Oneonta with Rev. David Mickiewicz, pastor, officiating.
