IN MEMORIAM: Stella ‘Skip’ Linney, 89;

Retired From County Social Services

COOPERSTOWN – Stella “Skip” C. Linney, 89, who retired from the county Department of Social Services, passed away on Aug. 29, 2016, after an extended illness.

She was born on Oct. 12, 1926, in Utica, the daughter of Stanley and Mary (Zurakowski) Czuprynski.

On Sept. 11, 1948, she married William H. Linney Jr., who predeceased her in 2007.

Stella was a member of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, Cherry Valley, the Springfield Historical Society, Spring Star Leatherstocking Senior Group, and the Utica Free Academy Alumni Association.

Survivors include two children, Mark and his wife Marie of South Carolina and Susan Linney MacKay of Cooperstown; a brother and sister-in-law, Theodore and Betty Czuprynski of California; a sister-in-law, Betty Bosc of Springfield Center, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Stella was predeceased by her brother, Edward Czuprynski and by two sisters, Virginia Haviland and Sophie Kuroski.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, with Father John Roos officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Center Cemetery.  There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in Stella Linney’s memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.
