COOPERSTOWN – A former county employee and his accomplice have been arrested and charged with stealing $25,000 in tax proceeds from the Otsego County Treasurer’s Office.
Lawrence Woodards, 34, Cooperstown, and Kevin Williamson, 34, New York City, are accused of working together to steal from taxpayers and the office.
Killer Knapp Dies In Prison; Guilty In SUNY Coed's Death Ricky Knapp ONEONTA – Ricky Knapp, the man convicted of the 1977 death of SUNY Oneonta student, has died in Mohawk Correctional Facility, according to prison records. Knapp, 66, died March 8, having served 40 years of a 25-to-life sentence for a 1978 manslaughter conviction in the death of 18-year-old Linda Velzy, a SUNY student from Long Island. In an unusual scene the afternoon of Saturday, September 7 at Cooperstown Central School, it wasn’t until after the varsity football game ended that the parking lots around the high school began to really fill up with cars. The reason? Hundreds of people gathered at the school’s auditorium to pay their respects, share remembrances, have a laugh, and perhaps even shed a tear or two as longtime influential community figure and CCS educator, coach, and athletics Hall of Fame member Don Howard was celebrated posthumously.
