On Bullying Consequences

Oneonta Job Corps Academy last evening hosted a screening of the Netflix movie “Audrie & Daisy,” which focuses on the tragic consequences surrounding two sexual assault cases involving high school students, at the Foothills Performing Arts Center. As part of Job Corps Youth 2 Youth Partners in Peace national initiative, the screening was a joint effort with Opportunities For Otsego, SUNY Oneonta and Oneonta police. The movie asks viewers to take an honest look at how sexual assault and bullying, especially cyber-bullying on social media, can ruin lives and tear communities apart. "It was a night to take our heads out of the sand, open our eyes, and start the conversation on how we’re going to address these serious issues," said OJC Director Chris Kuhn.  Representing the participating partners are, from left, Jessica Scanlon, OFO sexual educator; Police Chief Dennis Nayor, OJB Business & Community Liaison Adina Feliu, Police Lt. Douglas Brenner; OFO Victim Resource Coordinator Danica Sessions, and OJC Residential Manager Kathleen Feeney.

Killer Knapp Dies In Prison; Guilty In SUNY Coed’s Death ONEONTA – Ricky Knapp, the man convicted of the 1977 death of SUNY Oneonta student, has died in Mohawk Correctional Facility, according to prison records. Knapp, 66, died March 8, having served 40 years of a 25-to-life sentence for a 1978 manslaughter conviction in the death of 18-year-old Linda Velzy, a SUNY student from Long Island. According to reports, Velzy was last seen Dec. 9 1977, hitchhiking in downtown Oneonta.…
