Robert B. Anderson, 78; Farmer,
Former Laurens Highway Chief
ONEONTA – Robert B. Anderson, 78, of Oneonta, former Laurens town highway superintendent after retiring from farming in West Edmeston, died unexpectedly Wednesday March 29, 2017, in Oneonta.
Bob was born April 1, 1938, in Canandaigua, son of the late Robert E. and Norma Bulman Anderson. He was a graduate of Victor Central School prior to working for the state Thruway. Soon after, Bob joined the Coast Guard.
He spent 20 years with Rochester Gas & Electric as a lineman and foreman. Following his retirement from RG&E, he purchased a dairy farm in West Edmeston, which he operated with his son Steve for 10 years. Following his time on the farm, he drove trucks for various companies before purchasing his own rig.
Bob was also the Town of Laurens highway superintendent, and worked for Seward Sand & Gravel. He also gave his time to the town boards of Victor, Edmeston, and Laurens.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janet Spooner Anderson of Oneonta; sons Christopher (Sandy) Anderson, Steven (Wendy) Anderson, Timothy (Delfina) Anderson, and step-son Jeremy (Tammy) Hilts. Also, grandchildren Zachary, Jacob, Sarah, Jordan, Danny, Dane, and Dean Anderson and step-grandsons Dustin and Will Martin. He felt blessed to have them in his life.
At Bob’s request, there will be no calling hours or services. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association in Bob’s memory.
