IN MEMORIAM: Richard Benjamin Sr., 77;
Retired From County Highway Department
BURLINGTON FLATS – Richard L. Benjamin Sr., 77, who retired after 37 years with the Otsego County Highway Department, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, with his family at his side.
Richard was born on April 5, 1940 in Burlington Flats, the son of the late Murray and Florence Stickles Benjamin.
Richard was pre-deceased by his wife, Patricia A. Maxson Benjamin, and daughter Jeanne Eccelston.
He is survived by children, Donna (Dennis) Hathaway, Richard L. Benjamin Jr, Darin (Dawn) Benjamin; grandchildren Jessica (Jared) Barnhard, Robin (Travis) Morton, Michelle (Marcus) Wissing and Melissa (Terrell) Smith, great-grandchildren Charlotte, and Brynlee Morton; sisters Dorothy Bolton and Mildred Stebbins, and brother Ken (Sharon) Benjamin.
He was also pre-deceased by siblings Carrie Bookhout, Sid Benjamin, Charles Benjamin, Murray Benjamin, Donald Benjamin, Adrian Benjamin, and Orlo Benjamin. Also surviving are many nieces, and nephews.
Richard was a lifetime resident of the area. During his career with the county highway department, he operated heavy equipment and snowplowed. He enjoyed the family picnics in the pavilion, and will be remembered as a hard working family man.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Delker & Terry Funeral Home, 30 South St., Edmeston, with Pastor Jay Henderson officiating. Calling hours will be 10-11 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home. There will be a reception at the Edmeston Fire Department immediately following the services.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Edmeston Emergency Squad in memory of Richard.
