IN MEMORIAM: Chester Eggleton, 88;
Former Town Of Milford Assesor
MILFORD – Chester Eggleton, 88, of Milford, a former town assessor and firefighter involved in plumbing and heating businesses for a half-century, passed away on Wednesday August 27, 2012 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
He was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Waymart, Pa., the son Clarence and Jane (Pittaway) Eggleton. He married Jean Marie Wood on Dec. 31, 1958 in Roscoe.
He retired from Gregory Plumbing & Heating.
He was a member of the Roscoe Fire Department and was instrumental in establishing the Roscoe Emergency Squad. He later was a member of the Milford Fire Department, as well as the Methol Hunting Club for over 60 years.
He is survived by a son, Donald Eggleton and his wife Marcie; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Eggleton; a son-in-law, Robert Miner; a brother, Donald Eggleton and his wife, Louise; his sisters, Elaine Hubbard, Jane Klemm, and her husband, Frank, Ruth McNamara and her husband, Tom; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Peg) Eggleton.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Jean; a daughter, Carol Miner and a son, Douglas; his brothers, David and Robert; his sisters & brothers-in-law, Anne and Peter Rivera, and Norma and Bill Armstrong.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Lester R. Grumons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Steven Fournier, officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time.
