SUNY Oneonta Mourning
18-Year-Old Student’s Death
ONEONTA – An 18-year-old SUNY Oneonta student died early Saturday morning, according to an announcement made by President Nancy Kleniewski.
“I am profoundly saddened to inform you of the loss of a member of our campus community. Daniel William Michaels, a freshman from Dix Hills who was studying business economics, died early this morning. He was 18,” she wrote in a statement emailed to students Saturday morning.
“We offer the condolences of the SUNY Oneonta community to Daniel’s parents and family. The College will provide whatever assistance we can to help them during this difficult time,” the president said.
The death occurred off-campus at around 1:30 a.m. Oneonta police were notified and an investigation is ongoing.
Counseling will be available to students in Tobey Hall.
“We are all one community, and the death of a student is painful to us all,” wrote Kleniewski. “Today we feel the deepest sorrow and share our sincerest sympathy with all who knew and loved Daniel.
