IN MEMORIAM: Bonnie J. Garrity, 70;
Taught Cosmetology 20 Years At BOCES
ONEONTA – Bonnie Jeanne Garrity, 70, who taught cosmetology and related disciplines at ONC BOCES for 20 years, passed away Feb. 6, 2018, at Fox Nursing Home, with her family by her side.
She was born Jan. 2, 1948, in New Hyde Park, the daughter of Gilmore and Jeanne (Dietz) Garrity.
Bonnie grew up on Long Island. She eventually moved to the Worcester area to be near her parents.
Bonnie owned and operated BJ’s Unisex Salon, Schenevus and also Bonnie Jeanne’s Day Spa, Oneonta. She went back to college receiving a bachelors’ degree from SUNY Oswego in Vocational Education.
For 20 years, she worked at ONC BOCES, teaching cosmetology, nail technology, esthetician and barbering; a position she very much enjoyed and found very rewarding.
Bonnie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oneonta, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, National Cosmetology Association, the Oneonta Business Women’s, and a former member of the Oneonta Elks Club. She volunteered for the past 20 years with the American Cancer Society, Looking Good, Feeling Better program.
She is survived by her children, Peter and Lauren Marchione of Florida, Bonnie Jeanne Marchione of Long Island, Shannon Clancy of Florida; grandchildren, Alex and Nicholas Marchione, Sara and Bridgette Thompson, Tyreik and Tyson Reid; great-grandchildren, Arianna, Hailey, Tristan and James; her sister, Jeanne Westcott and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, sister, Patty Alveraz and a great-grandson, Joshua, Jr.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 9, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
A funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Feb. 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. David Mickiewicz as celebrant.
Spring interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery Columbarium.
