IN MEMORIAM: Gwendolyn Milener, 83;
Former Owner Of Oneonta Realty Firm
ONEONTA – Gwendolyn Wilson Milener, 83, former owner of DeMulter Better Homes & Garden Realty, died in the morning on Aug. 30, 2018, in Naples, Fla., where she lived. Her husband, Gene, and daughter, Lee, were holding her hands as she passed.
Gwen was born Denver, Colo., Oct. 7, 1934, the third of six girls. Gwen grew up in Whittier, Calif. After high school, while working for the FBI, Gwen volunteered to transfer to Manhattan in 1954.
She married Eugene Darden Milener III on June 1, 1957. Together they had a cheerful marriage of 61 years.
Gwen stayed at home to raise their children Eugene IV, Lee and Scott in Oneonta after moving there in 1961. All the children are in their 50s and doing well. Gwen had five granddaughters.
After her youngest was old enough, Gwen began a career in real estate that ran from 1971 to 1995. Gwen rose to be the owner of DeMulder Better Homes & Gardens, then the largest real estate office in Otsego County, having 16 associates. Gwen and her daughter, Lee, worked together for 10 years before Gwen retired.
Gwen was athletic – at swimming, golfing and snow and water skiing. She won several tennis tournaments. Gwen also stunned her kids when she bought a piano and started playing long classical pieces. Who knew Gwen had ever played the piano!
As a loving spouse, Gwen was also a first-class helpmate. Gwen and Gene enjoyed life immensely, including many retirement years of world travel.
Gwen’s passing marks the end of an era as the family transitions to the changes of life. While we in her loving family miss Gwen, we enjoy reminiscing about the many good times we all had together.
