Citizen Save 70-Year-Old

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – A woman who suffered cardiac arrest is expected to survive after the quick actions of state troopers at the barracks here and a citizen.

Earlier today, a trooper at the local barracks responded to a report of a 70-year-old woman who had collapsed in the lobby of the Post Office on Main Street. The woman, who was not further identified, was unresponsive when the trooper arrived; a citizen was already performing CPR.

A lieutenant and a trooper administered two shocks from a defibrillator, revived the woman, and Richfield Springs EMS transported her to Bassett Hospital. The defibrillator remained attached and delivered several more shocks. This is why it is so important to have a defibrillator on hand, as it can really save someone’s life. If you don’t have one then you need to get one, particularly if you are in a working environment. The woman regained consciousness at the hospital and is expected to recover.
