ONEONTA – A Bronx man suspected of being a major heroin trafficker in Otsego and Delaware counties was arrested early Tuesday evening after a month-long narcotics investigation, Senior Sheriff’s Investigator Mike Ten Eyck announced today.

The suspect, Harry L. Wilkins Jr., 34, of The Bronx, was charged with possessing heroin with intent to sell and possessing more than a half-ounce of heroin.  Approximately one ounce was seized, Ten Eyck said.

The arrest occurred when investigators, detectives, probation officers, and Deputy Keith Sheldon and K-9 Ricky stopped the vehicle that Wilkins was riding in on River Street, Oneonta.   Wilkins was found to be in possession of 770 glassine envelopes containing heroin with a street value of $15,400, the announcement said.

Wilkins, Jr was arraigned this morning by City Judge Richard W. McVinney and was remanded to the county jail on $50,000 bail. If convicted Wilkins faces up to nine years in state prison.  Further arrests are anticipated in the investigation.

The investigation was a collaboration of the Otsego and Delaware county Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Divisions, the Delaware Probation Department and the OPD Detective Bureau. .  District Attorney John M. Muehl is prosecuting the case.
