IN MEMORIAM: Frances D. Page, 90;
Active In Cooperstown Community Life
COOPERSTOWN – Frances Marie Dziergowski Page, 90, an active community volunteer whose jobs included telephone operator at New York Telephone’s Pioneer Street office, passed away on Dec. 14, 2018.
She was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Whitestone, Queens, to Edward & Wanda (Kilmuszka) Dziergowski. Fran attended schools in Flushing and College Point. She worked in zipper and glove factories until the family moved to Middlefield.
Fran then worked for New York Telephone Co. as a NYTel operator in Cooperstown. There she met her husband Floyd Page (“Pagey”). They were married Sept. 11, 1948, at St. Mary’s “Our Lady of the Lake” Roman Catholic Church.
Fran worked also at Cherry Valley Central School in the cafeteria, and then for over 20 years at The Otesaga as a switchboard operator.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, crafts, bowling and volunteering wherever she could. She was always a helping hand with Molly Holtje and Winnie Denny’s when they were catering parties. Fran was a breast cancer survivor for 25 years.
Fran was a member of many organizations during her life. In the Cooperstown area, she was a charter member of Middlefield Fire Department Auxiliary, charter member of VFW Post #7128’s auxiliary, Glimmerglass Opera Theater, and St. Mary’s Church. In the Port Washington area, she was involved in the Polish American Citizen Association (that her father started), Elks Lodge #2107 of New Hyde Park, Red Stocking Revue, and St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church.
Fran was predeceased by her parents; Floyd, her husband of 37 years; sister Rose Marie Olmstead; brother-in-law Doug Olmstead; brother Edward Degoski; nephews Donald Degoski and Keith Olmstead; and great granddaughter Cheyenne Bliss.
She is survived by her children, Stephen of Binghamton, Michael (Laura) of Cooperstown, and Janet Bliss (Tim) of Fredericksburg, Va. Also, her grandchildren, Melissa Hochbrueckner of Hartwick, Brent Page of Boston, Tim Bliss (Heather) of Spotsylvania, Va.; Tad Bliss (Becky Hutton) of Partlow, Va.; Michelle Page of Atlanta, Ga.; and Miranda Stratton and children in the State of Maryland; great-grandchildren Kylee and Brendan Bliss of Spotsylvania, Va.; and Peter and Derek Hockbrueckner of Hartwick. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren, and her sister-in-law Dubby Degoski of Cape Coral, Fla.
Funeral services will be held in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimers Association, St. Jude’s Hospital, Polish American Citizens Club (5 Pulaski Place, Port Washington, NY 11050), Elks Lodge #2107 (901 Lakeville Rd., New Hyde Park, NY 11040), American Heart Association, or the VFW Post #7128 and auxiliary (Cooperstown, NY), or a charity of your choice.
