IN MEMORIAM:  Shirlene Ouimet, 66; Retired From Job Corps

ONEONTA – Shirlene M. Ouimet, 66, who worked for the Oneonta Job Corps for 34 years, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014 at the Chestnut Park Nursing Home.

Shirlene was born on May 12, 1948 in Oneonta, the daughter of the George W. and Ann M. Oliver. She married Alfred H. Ouimet on Aug. 3, 1996, in Oneonta.


She was an assistant in the Job Corps’ Human Resources Department for more than three decades. Prior to that, she worked for the city Housing Authority and Urban Renewal. She also worked as a secretary at Southside Mall and Bettiol Fuel.

She enjoyed traveling and attending Bobby Vinton concerts and was a member of his fan club for many years. She also enjoyed going to Lake George.

Shirlene is survived by her loving husband, Fred; her daughters, Melissa (Todd) Ewen, Cynthia Doroski and her partner, Herb, and Barbara Snyder; her grandchildren, Emma and Jack Ewen, Christina and Kimberly Jones, Tony Doroski, Amber Roe, Brittany and Stephanie Jenkins, Jeff Moore, several great grandchildren and many friends.

A funeral mass will be at 10:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, in St. Mary’s Church, with the Rev. David Mickiewicz, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons. Calling hours are 2-4 Sunday at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may bew made to the Susquehanna SPCA, 4841 State Hwy 28, Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home.
