GO-EDC Distributes NY Study

Of Town-City Merger Benefits

53fb39580c099.imageONEONTA – In advance of Monday evening’s meeting of the Oneonta Town Board and Common Council, GO-EDC has distributed copies of the 2008 study showing the advantages of merging the two municipalities into a single Greater Oneonta.

The study, prepared by state Commission on Local Government Efficiency & Competitiveness, found financial and organizational benefits in the areas of police, fire, water & sewerage, public transportation, culture & recreation and emergency management.

The two boards are meeting at 7 p.m. in the Oneonta Middle School auditorium. The Mohawk Valley Economic Development Council’s executive director, Steve Smith, and staff, as well as GO-EDC founders, Albert Colone and Bill Shue, will present options.
