Funeral Friday For Philomena Naples, 89, Oneonta

ONEONTA – Philomena M. Naples, 89, matriarch of an extended Oneonta family, passed away on Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Fox Nursing Home.

She was born in Oneonta on June 9, 1925, the daughter of Louis and Josephine (Colone) Colone. She married Peter O. Naples, Sr. on Nov. 10, 1947, and he predeceased her on Aug. 18, 1982.

Phil retired as a school aid from Valleyview Elementary School, where she worked for many years.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, as well as being a dedicated and loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.

She is survived by her children, Peter O. Naples of Franklin, Mary-Ann Barbaro and her husband, Aldo, of Formia, Italy, and Angela Motler and her husband, Mark, of East Greenbush; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister and two brothers, Angelina Ennamorato, and her husband, Andrew of Oneonta, Mark Colone and his wife, Armida of Oneonta, and Louis Colone and his wife, Beverly of Oneonta; a daughter-in-law, Jean Naples of Oneonta.

She was predeceased by a son Michael Naples, the Common Council members.

Her grandchildren include Father Timothy Naples, now serving in Vermont. When he was ordained in 2010, he was the first Oneontan to receive Holy Orders in more than three decades.

A funeral mass will be at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at St. Mary’s Church, where Father Naples will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Calling hours are until 7 this evening at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home.
