A plea from a believer to
Mr. and Mrs. Claus
for a different kind of gift

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Santa,

Thank you for all of the wonderful gifts you have brought to me over the years. Now as I mature, I find that we now desperately need TIME. We need time to change ATTITUDES about a lot of things. (I guess you’re too busy to really go into detail about positive attitudes.) And once we change attitudes, we have to learn how to be KIND.
Oh, now that’s a toughie for you — it does not come in a box, you know. And then when we learn how to be kind, we need to learn how to RESPECT — respect and accept each other’s differences. And then when we learn how to respect, we have to have the Blessed FAITH that all of the above will really work, and with your help, Santa, this will be a better world.
So, here’s my list — I need: 1. Time, 2. Attitude, 3. Kindness, 4. Respect and 5. Blessed Faith. And let’s throw in a little love, okay?
Santa, can you get me all these things? And as long as you’re getting all this for me you might as well share with everyone. If we try all of the above it will really make a better world.

Yours truly, A believer.

For the past five years, he’s been a Christmas Time treat at the Greater Oneonta Historical Society, but for many years after Bresee’s Department Store closed down in the 1990s, he was out of the public eye. “He had been in our warehouse, and we rescued him,” said Elaine Bresee, Milford Center, whose husband Marc was one of the last family members to manage the namesake downtown Oneonta department store.…

Yes, Virginia… There IS A Santa Claus, Editor Wrote 8-Year-Old

Yes, Virginia… There IS A Santa Claus, Editor Wrote 8-Year-Old Editor’s Note: The New York Sun’s Francis Pharcellus Church penned this famous response to 8-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon in 1897. We take pleasure in answering thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun: Dear Editor— I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, “If you see it in The Sun, it’s so.” Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus? Virginia O’Hanlon…
