Airbnb Generates $1.8M
For Otsego County Hosts
In Otsego County there are now approximately 310 Airbnb hosts, and each earned about $5,900 in supplementary income in 2018, the leading community-driven hospitality company announced today.
That would amount to $1.8 million in revenues to people who open their homes to guests through the Airbnb system.
In eight “Southern Tier” counties, homeowners hosted 130,500 guests in the just-completed year, generating $17.5 million in supplementary income, the company said.
“It was another great year for Airbnb in the Southern Tier, with more local residents and small businesses able to benefit from the economic opportunities created by home sharing than ever before,” said Josh Meltzer, Airbnb’s head of Northeast Public Policy.
Here’s how the other seven counties did:
- In Broome County, there are now approximately 90 hosts who share their homes via Airbnb, typically earning about $3,400 annually in supplemental income.
- In Chemung County, there are now approximately 40 hosts who share their homes via Airbnb, typically earning about $7,300 annually in supplemental income.
- In Chenango County, there are now approximately 50 hosts who share their homes via Airbnb, typically earning about $2,500 annually in supplemental income.
- In Delaware County, there are now approximately 350 hosts who share their homes via Airbnb, typically earning about $6,400 annually in supplemental income.
- In Schuyler County, there are now approximately 90 hosts who share their homes via Airbnb, typically earning about $10,700 annually in supplemental income.
- In Steuben County, there are now approximately 110 hosts who share their homes via Airbnb, typically earning about $6,400 annually in supplemental income.
- In Tioga County, there are now approximately 30 hosts who share their homes via Airbnb, typically earning about $2,900 annually in supplemental income.
- In Tompkins County, there are now approximately 980 hosts who share their homes via Airbnb, typically earning about $6,300 annually in supplemental income.
In addition to the new income going into the pockets of Southern Tier Airbnb hosts, counties across the region, including Otsego County, are generating new revenue through tax agreements that allow Airbnb to collect and remit local taxes on behalf of its hosts.
Airbnb also reached tax agreements with Broome, Delaware, Schuyler, Steuben and Tompkins counties, and paid $2.7 million in local taxes statewide, the company said.
