IN MEMORIAM: Andrew H. German, 80;
Businessman; Father Of NY’s Top General
SCHOHARIE – Funeral services are Tuesday, Aug. 15, for Andrew Harold German, 80, a businessman, Army veteran and father of the adjutant general of the New York State National Guard. He died at his home on Aug. 9, 2017.
Andrew was born on May 14, 1937, in Roxbury, the son of Melvin and Angie (Hinkley) German.
He served in the Army from 1955 to 1964 as a paratrooper in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division, spending time in Germany and Lebanon.
After leaving the service in 1964, he worked at his family store in Roxbury until 1968. For the next 14 years he traveled around the U.S. doing construction work. In 1982, he opened up Wild Art Taxidermy Studio with his son, Chris, and operated his business until retirement.
Since then Andrew and Helga enjoyed their retirement traveling, spending time with family, and snow-birding to Florida. During his life, Andrew pursued his passion of hunting in Germany, Canada and across the U.S., fishing the small streams of the Catskills, birding and sharing his knowledge of the same with family, friends and strangers.
Andrew passed away peacefully in his sleep. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved his family and will be missed by them dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Helga; his children and their spouses, Gen. Anthony P. German and his wife Diana (Vigna) of Oneonta, and Christopher and Lisa (Kuhn) of South Kortright; his seven grandchildren, Joshua and his wife, Rachel (Morris), Benjamin and his fiancée, Diaria Pause, Zachary and Rebekah, Schuyler, Brynne and Alexis; and great-grandchild, Audrey. Andrew is also survived by his sisters, Sandra Reed and Brenda Fairbairn; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Andrew H. German to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516 Topeka, KS 66675.
