IN MEMORIAM: Bertha H. Johnson, 85;

Active In Salvation Army; 2 Sons Survive

ONEONTA – Bertha Johnson, 85, active in the Salvation Army here and in Michigan, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Chestnut Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born April 21, 1934, to the late George P. and Anna Bell (Short) Harris.

Bertha, worked as a waitress for many years while living in Virginia. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church in Kalamazoo, Mich., and Oneonta. Bertha was a member of the Home League in the Salvation Army. First and foremost was Betha’s family, especially her kids and grandchildren.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael Johnson of Riverside, Calif., and Gregory Johnson of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Pamela Harris of Otego; and her three loving grandchildren. Her nephews Chris and Diane Wayman of Tennessee; Keith Wayman of Otego, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Bertha was predeceased by her sister, Mary Wayman and nephew, Timothy Wayman.

A graveside committal service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019 in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery with Col. Pigford of the Oneonta Salvation Army Church officiating.
